15th Metro FM Music awards Announced And Call For Entries
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)’s biggest commercial radio station, Metro FM, has today launched its 15th edition of the Metro FM Music Awards (MMA). The 15th Metro FM Music Awards will return for the fourth year to the Inkosi Luthuli Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal on Saturday, 27 February 2016.
The MMA’s opens for nominations/entries on the 12th of November 2015. The closing date for entries is the 11th of December 2015.
The upcoming installment of the awards is very distinctive in its nature, compared to the previous awards where only local artists were celebrated and rewarded for their excellent contribution towards the growth of the South African music industry. This edition will see an artist outside South African boarders being furnished with an accolade.
In the true definition of ‘Legends don’t stop, they ask what’s next?’ the 15th Metro FM Music Awards have added the following special features:
- New Category – A new category has been included this year. It is aimed at extending the platform to recognize and reward talent from countries in the rest of the continent. METRO FM will run a full listener participation/driven campaign after the launch for the public to name the category.
- Music Workshop – this will be a music workshop that is designed to assist up and coming artists hosted by SA music giants to nurture, groom and help them with ways to be sustainable in the competitive music industry.
- Comedy: the comedy element has been added into the build-up of events as a platform to showcase big names in the South African comedy.
- Music meets Fashion: This will see collaboration between musicians and Fashion designers coming together in the name of music and fashion. Selected designers will be tasked with creating a concept that speaks to this initiative.
‘Every year, Metro FM has consistently endeavored to bring about new and innovative ideas to the Awards property. This year, we introduce price money in all the categories. The winner in each category will bag a staggering R100 000.00 #WeAreNoDone. This year, we will also be introducing a new category, celebrating music from other African Countries that forms part of METRO FM’s playlist. This is in the Spirit of oneness, as we believe that we are one Africa’. said Group Executive: Radio, Mr. Lesley Ntloko.
As part of creating further awareness, the station will embark on ‘The heat wave’, which are Provincial roadshows to galvanize support for the main event.
METRO FM remains committed to delivering the awards ceremony that is of world class standard.
NOMINATION/ENTRIES PROCESS:
It is a strict requirement of the MMAs that the albums, singles and recordings eligible for entry at the 15th MMA’s must have been released between 23 November 2014 and 24 November 2015.
