Speaking during an interview on Space Impact Podcast, the Capetonw-born rapper reflected on what made her sit down and write the recently released single Anazinto. Dee said that the song was about the reflection on the two years she was quiet.

“That song was a reflection on the two years I was quiet, that was the COVID times,” said Dee Koala. “For me, a lot of people passed away, my mom, grandma, my aunt, great grandma during COVID and they passed away month after month. So the grieving for me was gathered up for different people and then I had also a personal journey that was really f*cked up, it had a bit of heartbreak in it.”

The Gwan hitmaker revealed that just as she thought she was well, she learned of the death of fellow rapper Riky Rick and found herself back at square one. “As I thought I was fine then like Riky passed away, then I was back in the hole. I tried to like force through to the studio and write about it,” she added.

Despite forcing herself to go to the studio and sing about her experiences, Dee admitted that she couldn’t do it on the first try. She stated that she needed to take a break and that her admirers should understand. “I couldn’t stand being alone, I couldn’t stand being on my own so I had to just be like this industry had to understand that this thing is for me and if I’m blessed with this then I can take a break,” she said.

“So I took a break and then on one of the blessed days when I made that song (Anazinto) and it had to sound like spoken words because I didn’t understand that I couldn’t make it into like a vibe. It wasn’t going to be a vibe.

“The story itself is not a vibe, so I spoke in a dope manner, so it was me talking about those things. Im so happy I dropped it because that was me accepting what has happened and being on the right side of life.”
