SA Hip Hop artists have been dropping chart topping records more than ever but not everyone is moving albums like the O.G’s used to. Some will argue the fact that the internet and downloads are killing the game but fact is your fans will support you. Check out our Top 20 Best Selling SA Hip Hop Albums Of All Time list:

1. 2014 Cassper Nyovest- Tsholofelo sold Gold in 3 Months(new record) and then went on to sell platinum in 7months.

Tsholofelo, which means “hope”, is named after Nyovest’s younger sister.

Work on the album began as early as 2011 and continued on through 2014. It features guest appearances from HHP, Okmalumkoolkat, Bucie, iFani, Riky Rick, Bass Mdlongwa, Ntukza, Kyle Deutschmann, Tshego, Anatii, Skales (credited as Young Skalez), KayGizm from Morafe and Prokid. Prior to its release, the album was supported by three free singles, “Gusheshe”, “Doc Shebeleza” and “Phumakim”, all of which achieved wide mainstream appeal.

2. 2004 Skwatta Kamp- Mkhukhu Funkshen sold Platinum

Mkhukhu Funkshen displayed expansion, maturity and the self-belief that came from being one of South Africa’s most recognizable and talented hip-hop groups at the time. ‘Skwatta Kamp does it like nobody else can – right now we are on top of the food chain, ‘ says Bozza.

3. 2005 Pitch Black Afro- Stylin Gel sold Platinum

The album, called Styling Gel, has a sound that will be familiar to most fans of hip-hop, and the lyrics have some of the same boastful posturing found in many rap songs. But the languages used are Zulu and a slangy mixture of different languages called totsi taal.

4. Cassper Nyovest With Refiloe Which Went Platinum

The album was first released on October 31, 2015 at Nyovest’s show at the Ticket Pro Dome in Johannesburg, whereby the purchase of each ticket by each concert goer, resulted in each one of them receiving an accompanying copy of his second studio album. This resulted in sales of over 20,000 copies of the album in a few hours of its first day. Refiloe debuted a few days later on November 6, 2015 on iTunes. Within 30 minutes of being made available for download, the album peaked at top of the South African iTunes chart across all genres

5. K.O With Skhanda Republik sold platinum

With the success of his album, having recently, gone platinum, K.O continues to grow his fan base across oceans. The rapper is one of the few that did not even take his plaque to flaunt it on social media or even talk about it. The album is a classic and was expected to do this well but what was surprising is the fact that he didn’t even tweet about it.
