“This 90% thing doesn’t mean radio now HAS to play your shit music” – AKA

The 90% thing doesn’t mean radio now HAS to play your shit music. After South Africa became free from colonization, we didn’t know that we were still held down within the system we living under. Musicians have been fighting to see local media outlets like radio and t.v being more patriotic.

In 2013, we saw Kwesta penning the historic letter to Yfm complaining about how they weren’t playing enough South African music and things did change a bit. Artists like AKA, Cassper, Gigi and many more have been fighting for SA music for a while now.

There have been complaints about how South Africa does not have enough content to keep the listener entertained for 90% of the time. AKA went on to explain that despite 90% of the music playing on radio will be local, whack songs will not get played simply because we are playing 90% local content.
