The legendary Chuck D says Africa is the future of all MC’s in the culture. The origins of Hip Hop have been argued to be in Africa but for the longest time African MC’s were under appreciated on the global stage.
Chuck D helped create politically and socially conscious hip hop music in the mid-1980s as the leader of the rap group Public Enemy. About.com ranked him at No. 9 on their list of the Top 50 MCs of Our Time, while The Source ranked him at No. 12 on their list of the Top 50 Hip-Hop Lyricists of All Time.
In 2016, we have seen the world biggest labels approach African artists e.g Jay Z’s Roc Nation approached Nasty C after they had met up with Ice Prince in the United States. It’s clear we are going somewhere and we can’t wait to see what SA Hip Hop is going to do.
