The American alternative hip hop artist, Lizzo was born Melissa Jefferson on 27 April 1988 in Detroit, Michigan. She is a founding member of indie hip hop groups The Chalice, Grrrl Prty, The Clerb and Absynthe. In October 2013, she won City Pages “Picked to Click” award for best new Twin Cities artist. The American magazine, Time named her one of 14 music artist to watch in 2014. 2. She grew up in Houston, Texas and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2011.

3. She is a founding member of indie hip hop groups The Chalice, Grrrl Prty, The Clerb and Absynthe.

4. In 2012, The Chalice released their first album, We Are the Chalice, which was locally successful.

5. She released her debut album, Lizzobangers on October 2013 to regional and national success.

6. She toured the US and UK in the fall of 2013 opening for Har Mar Superstar and additionally sang with his band.

7. In October 2013, she won City Pages “Picked to Click” award for best new Twin Cities artist.

8. In November 2013, the American magazine, Time named her one of 14 music artists to watch in 2014.

9. On June 1, 2014, she shared the stage with St. Paul and The Broken Bones, performing “A Change Is Gonna Come” together.
