The American recording artist and poet from the Bronzeville neighbourhood, NoName was born Fatimah Warner on 18 September 1991 in Chicago, Illinois. Her interest in poetry led her to compete in local open mics and slam poetry competitions; she placed third in Chicago’s annual Louder than a Bomb competition. She has been rapping and performing slam poetry in Chicago since 2010. In 2013 she gained wider recognition and acclaim following her appearance on the track “Lost” from Chance the Rapper’s mixtape Acid Rap. There is no doubt that the 25-years-old American artist and poet is definitely an act to look out for in the music industry.

2. She grew up listening to blues musicians such as Buddy Guy and Howlin’ Wolf from an early age.

3. As a teen she spent time in the YOUMedia project – a space for young artists to create and network based in the Harold Washington Library.

4. Her interest in poetry led her to compete in local open mics and slam poetry competitions; she placed third in Chicago’s annual Louder than a Bomb competition.

5. She has been rapping and performing slam poetry in Chicago since 2010.

6. She broke into the music industry in 2013.
