Zeph Ellis is known for introducing various sampling techniques to grime production, and creating the style of singing hooks on grime tracks. In 2011, he signed his first major label deal with Mercury Records. the English rapper, grime MC and record producer, Zeph Ellis was born Joseph Ellis-Stevenson on 19 October 1988 in Stockwell, London. His first official appearance as a featured artist came on rapper Early B’s single “A Star”, released in the UK in November 2008. His single “Are You Not Entertained?” debuted at number 53 on the UK Singles Chart and number 21 on the UK R&B Chart, marking his first chart appearance as a solo artist. There is no doubt that the 27-years-old English rapper, grime MC and record producer is definitely a name to be reckon with in the music industry.

Here are 10 things you probably didn’t know about the English rapper, grime MC and record producer, Zeph Ellis:

1. Zeph Ellis was born Joseph Ellis-Stevenson on 19 October 1988 in Stockwell, London.

2. He began rapping at the age of seven, using an Atari model as a basis for music production.

3. Under the name Young Dot, he released his first self-produced mixtape in 2007, entitled This Is The Beginning.

4. He is a member of the grime collective OG’z alongside P Money, Jendor and Blacks.

5. His first official appearance as a featured artist came on rapper Early B’s single “A Star”, released in the UK in November 2008.

6. He also appeared on the Children in Need 2011 charity single, “Teardrop”. The single, which was performed both at Children in Need 2011 and Children in Need Rocks Manchester in November 2011 debuted at number 24 on the UK Singles Chart, marking his first chart appearance.

7. It was announced on 5th December that he had been nominated for the BBC’s poll Sound of 2012.

8. His single “Are You Not Entertained?” debuted at number 53 on the UK Singles Chart and number 21 on the UK R&B Chart, marking his first chart appearance as a solo artist.

9. His single “Overload” debuted at number 15 on the UK chart and also debuting at number 3 on the R&B chart.

10. Taking a break from rapping, he changed his stage name to Zeph Ellis and focused on production, releasing various instrumental projects including the This Side of Grimeseries.
