Rashid Kay, who is well-versed in the history of South African Hip Hop, stated that MT was the one who first promoted Skhanda rap in 2010 before K.O. established CashTime. “MT was a legend on Siz n Scoop and was already pushing Skhanda Rap around 2010. CashTime was formed through the “Full Clip” with the help of @SizweDhlomo The name Emtee is arguable cos it comes from “Mthembeni.” Tweeted Rashid.

During an interview with Zingah on Choppin’ It With Bhudah T, the two revisited the subject with Rashid Kay strongly stating that K.O stole the Skhanda sound from MT. “MT from Thembisa 1632 had a mixtape called Skhanda Music, whether you listened to the mixtape or not, he started Skhanda,” Rashid said.

In a bid to defend his former CashTime boss, Zingah refuted Rashid’s claims saying; “Skhanda for K.O was the sound, that was Skhanda the music. So what Skhanda did he start that n**ga? Did he make that sound of music? He didn’t make the same sound as K.O.” Zingah said.

During their back-and-forth argument, Rashid said K.O. took the name Skhanda from MT and the sound was then created by Lunatik. “K.O. took the Skhanda name from MT, but took to the Skhanda sound from Lunatik, the name and the sound, those are two different things.” Rashid Kay clarified.
