However, his evolution into a sophisticated rapper, characterized by his affinity for cigars and a bourgeois lifestyle, sparked a range of reactions among fans. Despite all the criticism towards his transition in the music industry, Stogie T remains one of the best lyricists in SA Hip Hop.

Leveraging his wealth of experience, Stogie T took to Instagram to enlighten his followers on the significance of crafting a potent and attention-grabbing opening line in a rap verse. “Yoh, so the thing that I really privilege when I write a verse is the first line or the first couple of lines. It goes back to the adage the first impression lasts,” said Stogie T.

“For me, it’s yo there’s so much sense to being overloaded, you’re hearing the voice for the first time, you’re hearing the flow for the first time, and you’re focused like what’s the verse about. So you have the person’s full attention and that’s when you can capture them and keep them there and try to keep them for the second verse or second half of the verse.

“So I really privilege the first line and I always do my best, to put my foot forward when it comes to the first line,” the veteran rapper added.

Stogie T further elaborated on how a well-crafted first line can act as a lyrical hook, embedding itself in the listener’s mind and leaving a lasting impact. He cited examples from his discography, highlighting instances where the initial bars of a song served as a gateway to deeper narratives and layers of meaning.
