Social Media Tied In Heated Debate On Who Became The First Billionaire In Hip Hop Between Jay Z & Dr. Dre

Forbes publication has recently named Jay Z the first Hip hop star to become a billionaire, but some social media users feel the news are a bit misguided and that Dr Dre was actually the first billionaire.

According to Forbes Jay Z managed to make billions through investments in liquor, art, real estate, and shares in growing companies like Uber. The rapper also launched Rocawear in 1999 (which he sold in 2007 for $204 million), co-owning D’Ussé with Bacardi, and acquiring and relaunching TIDAL.

Most people believed Dre became the first Billionaire although reports back in 2014 placed in the third spot from Diddy and Jay Z. Dr Dre ‘s net worth is or was $770 million (£559 million). His increasing wealth is thanks to a nine-figure windfall from Apple’s $3 billion buyout of Beats in 2014.

“Some may assume that Dr. Dre already achieved billionaire status a couple of years ago, but that isn’t entirely true. According to Forbes, Dre sold his brand, Beats by Dr. Dre to Apple for $3 billion. While his company is worth billions, Dre’s personal net worth is $850 million”
