Mahogany has an immense reputation in the SA music industry and the entertainment space as a whole. The famed producer did not mince his words speaking out against what he perceived as a gross abuse of power. Rich Mahogany‘s remarks followed a viral Instagram Live session by Phori, where he asserted that any artist utilizing his resources to record music automatically relinquishes ownership of the music to him.

“When you record music in my computer, and my studio and my sh*t and my electricity that sh*t is mine, it belongs to me, you must understand that one,” Phori said. “So you must understand when you work on somebody’s studio that sh*t is not yours,” he added.

In response, Rich Mahogany stood up for artists, arguing that they shouldn’t face hardship simply because they lack the means to afford necessities such as recording equipment and food, which Phori can provide. “What is this oke saying kahle kahle @KMalatji ? Are these kids suffering because they can’t afford their own equipment and food? Am I hearing him right or maybe isJukulyn is defeating me?” Wrote Rich Mahogany.

Richard went on to condemn Phori for his perceived selfishness, expressing strong disapproval of the fellow producer’s work ethic. “How can you openly admit to exploitation like that live on mabaleng and be proud of it? Disappointing if not just plain disgusting. Shame on you!” Rich Mahogany added.

DJ Maphorisa has played a significant role in elevating the South African music industry, collaborating with numerous high-profile artists and producing chart-topping music. Phori is widely recognized as a successful hitmaker, and his influence is evident in the current surge of Amapiano.

Nevertheless, it remains essential to ascertain whether the majority of artists he has collaborated with possess ownership of their master recordings or if the masters were exchanged for studio time and sustenance.
