Eminem Explains Why He Decided To Perform His 2002 Single ‘Lose Yourself’ At The 2020 Oscars

Eminem Explains Why He Decided To Perform His 2002 Single ‘Lose Yourself’ At The 2020 Oscars. This past weekend Oscar’s 92nd annual awards took place and Eminem was one of the acts set to perform.

The rapper shook a lot of audiences when he performed his 17 year old single ‘Lose Yourself’.

The backlash and questions flooded with fans showcasing confusion which he was more than glad to reply to.

“I kinda figured maybe since I didn’t get a chance to do it at the time, maybe it would be cool,” he said. “Back then, I never even thought that I had a chance to win, and we had just performed ‘Lose Yourself’ on the Grammys with the Roots a couple of weeks before the Oscars, so we didn’t think it was a good idea.

“And also, back at that time, the younger me didn’t really feel like a show like that would understand me. But then when I found out I won, ‘That’s crazy!’ That to me shows how authentic and real that award is — when you don’t show up and you still win. That makes it very real to me,” he said on an interview with Variety publication.

“Lose Yourself,” was released in 2002 as the lead single to which became a soundtrack to 8 Mile film.

Elsewhere in the brief interview, Em said he’d be open to another acting role if the right script came along.
