He was 45.

Taking to Twitter, Phil Mphela a South African entertainment commentator confirmed the passing of the acclaimed music superstar. In a statement shared by Phil on his Twitter handle, it stated that Magesh sustained an epileptic seizure, which sadly took his life.

“It is with great sadness that the family wishes to confirm the passing of Tokollo Magesh Tshabalala. Magesh, as he was affectionately known, passed away this morning as a result of an epileptic seizure. The family requested privacy during this difficult period.” Read the statement. It further stated that details for the funeral and memorial will be made available in due course.

Magesh was born Tokollo Tshabalala on October 14, 1976 in Johannesburg. He joined the band Mashsmplani as a student at St. Stithians College, and his musical career quickly took off. Together with his high school friends Kabelo Mabalane and Zwai Bala, he formed one of Mzansi’s finest musical acts, TKZee, an offshoot of their names Tokollo, Kabelo, and Zwai.

TKZee‘s first album, Halloween, became a highly lauded body of work with hit singles like We Love This Place.

As a result of its 200 000+ copy sales, the album was given a platinum certification by the Recording Industry of SA. Additionally, they won four SA Music Awards for Best Kwaito Album, Best Duo/Group, Best Single, and Best Kwaito Single for their efforts.
