DJ Peter Mashata was fatally shot in Shoshanguve on Saturday night. Gauteng police spokesperson Col Noxolo Kweza confirmed the death of the renowned ‘Noise Maker’, indicating that the incident occurred close to Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

“The two victims were driving near TUT (Tshwane University of Technology) in Soshanguve when shots were fired at their vehicle. The suspects fled and police are following several leads,” Kweza said.

Taking to Twitter, Cassper Nyovest added his voice to the growing outcry against the absence of law and order in South Africa following DJ Mashata’s tragic murder. The rapper conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the late DJ, expressing deep sorrow over the persistent lawlessness plaguing the nation.

“The gun violence in South Africa is just scary. These are people’s kids, fathers, brothers and sisters that are senselessly getting killed. Criminals have realised that they can do as they wish and nothing is being done about it. It’s just sad to watch and painful to live in this country which used to be such a bliss.” Cassper said.

The rapper shared his apprehension about going out, mentioning that he prefers staying home and enjoying movies instead. “We are only safe in God’s hands. South Africa is lawless. It’s so sad to see what our country has become. It’s not even fun anymore to be outside nje. Id rather watch a movie,” he added.

The award-winning rapper has seen some of his fellow industry peers lose their lives to gun violence, a reality that became all too clear after the tragic deaths of AKA and DJ Sumbody.
