DJ Maphorisa Responds To MacG Calling Him “A Vampire.” With a plethora of chart-topping tracks credited to him, DJ Maphorisa has consistently found himself at the centre of scrutiny within South African music culture. While Phori has collaborated with numerous renowned artists, many of whom have risen to prominence under his mentorship, such partnerships have often been perceived as exploitative within the industry.
During a recent episode of Podcast And Chill, MacG sparked controversy by asserting that Phori’s motivations are driven by greed, emphasizing his tendency to exploit emerging artists. MacG accused DJ Maphorisa of unfairly compensating artists recording under his label, effectively claiming full ownership of their music through unequal split sheets.
“He (Phori) doesn’t give them (artists) a fair share of the split sheets, he keeps everything, I dont know about the masters, but I’m saying when it comes to split sheets, he owns everything he doesn’t share it accordingly. That’s why his name is on every song,” MacG said.
MacG stated that despite Phori crediting other artists on the songs produced under his record label, these artists receive no compensation, suggesting that the acclaimed producer is exploiting them. “The other names dont get sh*t dawg, that guy is a vampire, he feeds from the youth. He’s greedy that guy, the right thing to do would be to share the split sheets accordingly, but he doesn’t do that.
“He does the whole thing of I’m Phori, I’m putting you on so I’m taking one hundred per cent of everything. And if I’m lying ask him to produce a split sheet, let’s see it,” MacG added.
In response, DJ Maphorisa defended himself stating that reputable record labels use the same business method he uses hence he is not exploiting anyone. The famed DJ and producer went on and throw shades at MacG and his podcast crew stating that Sol Phenduka is the smartest one yet he is being underpaid.

“Kalawa used the same method, Tyla “Water” using the same method, Black is brown is using the method etc.. I will never say why is Sol getting less money on the show but he’s the smartest on team it’s non of my business, let me tool,” DJ Maphorisa said.
In another post, Madumane expressed his surprise at MacG’s comments, indicating that he had assumed the podcaster was knowledgeable about the workings of the music industry.
“Macg really got a problem with me or the show is making money with name that’s why he has to talk about me all the time. It’s kinda crazy cause I n Macg we used rock together with Bobsta Farout days ko Midrand. Ehh na Chana metsi ba boi😂 It’s confusing cause he knows all about the music business. Sol was correcting him but nah his the Boss I guess,” Phori added.
