The rise of the New Orleans rapper Kevin Gates didn’t come as a surprise. Kevin Gates’ gangster philosophy and song- writing ability has captured the imagination of fans across the country. He released his debut album Islah in 2016 and he outsold Rihanna. The sky is the limit for the New Orleans Kevin Gates. His debut studio album, Islah, was released in January 2016 and peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart. Prior to Islah, Gates also released numerous mixtapes including Stranger Than Fiction, By Any Means, and Luca Brasi 2, all of which peaked in the top 40 on the Billboard 200 chart. His recognition tripled after the release of his ‘’ Islah’’ album earlier this year.

Gates had an often tumultuous upbringing and was arrested for the first time in 1999 at the age of 13 for “joyriding” as a passenger, like any rapper who has a cold story to tell. Gates was charged with battery charges for kicking a fan in the summer of 2015 while he was performing on stage at an event in Lakeland, Florida. His music is philosophical, blending with his storytelling ability that won the heart of many in the hip hop world. Kevin truly has arrived and welcomed warmly, reaching number two on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Gates’ lyrics often deal with subjects like depression, poverty, and prison time. He has listed numerous artists among his influences including Nas, Biggie Smalls, Jay-Z, Tupac Shakur, Eminem, and others. Indeed every day a star is born!
