Nicki Minaj Wants People To Stop “Remixing” Her Words

Nicki Minaj Wants People To Stop “Remixing” Her Words! Nicki Minaj has called out “blogs & TV shows” that she believes have misquoted what she had to say about her effect on female rap in pop culture.

Minaj’s Instagram post came shortly after TV show host Wendy Williams talked about Minaj on her show, saying, “Nicki Minaj is crediting herself for making female rap mainstream.” It was a statement that went down poorly with the crowd — and one that Williams herself eventually agreed with — but was it what Minaj actually said?

Sharing a video clip of the interview that Williams was referencing, Minaj made a generous offer: “If you can find the part where I said ‘I made female rappers mainstream’, I’ll give you $100,000.00.”

What Nicki actually says in the clip is, “My role is Hip Hop has been super unique because when my first album came out there had been so much time where there wasn’t a female rap album out that went platinum, there wasn’t a big female rap presence right before I got in. So my role was reintroducing the female rapper to pop culture.”

Nicki explained why the distinction is important in the caption of the video, writing, “Imagine me saying I made female rappers mainstream when there were so many women who already had platinum albums under their belts.”

Nicki credits Lauryn Hill, Eve, Missy Elliott, Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Trina and Queen Latifah, before concluding, “When I came out, there had been a drought of a few years where NO female rap album had gone platinum, females weren’t getting budgets, the industry did NOT believe in the female rapper anymore.”

“They had stopped generating MONEY for labels. Ask any rap historian or just anyone with a brain. These are facts and nothing but the facts. So I ‘REINTRODUCED’ the ‘successful’ female rapper back to POP CULTURE.”
