EXCLUSIVE: SA Singer Candice Pillay Talks About How She Got On To Dr Dre’s Compton Album

Good Hope FM’s Dan Corder got the exclusive with the Candice Pillay who grew up in Pietermaritzburg and plotted her way to the U.S.A when she was 18. Candice worked several jobs before she got her big break in L.A. Candice says she worked any job she could to survive.

Pillay has amazing vocals and her sound is heavily influenced by Hip Hop. I personally fell in love with after listening to her single titled Hold On. Candice explains how she had a song that they thought would be great for Rihanna and the track was on the Talk That Talk album. Pillay went on to write 7 songs for Christina Auguilera.

When she met Dr Dre she didn’t know that she was about to meet him. “Dre played my music so loud and he was like run that back. I played the song 3 times and he said I have an idea. Would you like to work with me”. Dre fell in love with Candice’s vocals and they have been in studio since. Pillay features on 2 songs on the Compton album which are Genocide which Kendrick Lamar also raps on and her concept song, Medicine man. Check out the Candice Pillay exclusive with Dan Corder:
