“You not South African if you don’t support Nasty C,” Saudi Explains

Saudi echoes Cassper's views

“You not South African if you don’t support Nasty C,” Saudi Explains. The issue of authenticity when it comes to Hip Hop in South Africa remains a big topic, others feel rappers are losing culture and originality because they want to imitate Americans.

Some people feel that the term authenticity in Hip Hop is misplaced because it often expects new wave rappers to use vernac for them to be considered original.

The debates have brewed, dissipated and resurfaced around the topic of being genuine as a rapper. Cassper made it clear that he feels there is space for everyone and that putting people in a box isn’t a depiction of authentic SA rap.

“Can we do away with the culture of replacing. How about adding all the greatness to our culture ? The more great artists, the more great art, the better. Lets keep building and not replacing. Your light doesnt dim when you ignite somes else’s flame.” To more Black excellence!!!” hailed Mufasa.

To agree with Cassper’s views was Saudi who expresses that we need less copy and paste and made an example with Nasty C.

“uKau ain’t lying. More authenticity. Less copy and paste. You not South African if you dont Support Nasty C, whether or not you like his vernacular raps that’s 1 artist whose originality and creativity I can vouch for,” said Saudi.

It seems the new rappers are about embracing the culture but diluting it with more style to get on with the times.
