The new and vibrant Amapiano genre has lure most hip hop artist to jump into the new wave. Nonetheless, some rappers have been heavily criticized for jumping ship and joining the Piano movement. With a wide spectrum of musicians, producers, and performers coming on the radio and dominating the groove, Amapiano has grown into one of the country’s major, if not the largest, genres.

With all the talk that has been going on about the Yano movement, most hip hop artists who are in the game have come out to share their thoughts in regards to people mentioning that SA Hip hop is dead. Stogie T one of the hip hop guru has come out to express how he feels about rappers joining the Piano movement making it clear that he is not mad at artists making Pianos.

“I‘m not mad at MCs or hip hop artists making Piano, I’m not mad at that do you fam.” “If you feel like you gotta sing to get your expression out, to get your story out, to get who you are out sing bro do that R’n’B sh**t.” He said on a video clip making trends on YouTube.

The iconic rapper further explained that one of his favourite hip hop artist HHP was once a gospel artist and he learnt a lot from his music through the way he expressed himself with gospel music. “One of my favourite hip hop artist in South Africa HHP he famously started an album with some gospel sh**t you know what I mean?” “Beautiful, powerful, impactful you know, I learnt more from that than what I learn from some of these verses, it was like about him you know what I mean?” I was like yeah that’s soulful that’s some sh**t right.”

Stogie T made it clear that he is not going to be dragged in the hip hop vs Amapiano debate after mentioning that he is not angry at hip hop artists doing the Yanos. “So I’m not mad at anybody who is traditionally hip hop making Piano, I’m not mad at that, just like I was never mad at people selling out arenas, you know doing platinum records, how can I be mad at that bro?” He said.
