“We Just Have Pride,” Duncan On Amapiano Taking Over

“We Just Have Pride,” Duncan On Amapiano Taking Over! It’s been months since the synergy of the two KZN emcees, Zakwa and Duncan, freed their joint project titled Zakwe and Duncan housing 15 songs with major features from artists like DJ Tira, K.O, Kwesta and many more.

The Zakwe and Duncan collaborative album has lately been one of the most valued pieces to come out of SA Hip Hop. The relationship between the two rappers throughout the artistic production just shows how they are sonically intertwined. The duo’s project was recently nominated for a SAMA award in the Best Hip Hop album category alongside Yanga Chief, Nadia Nakai and Boity.

"We Just Have Pride," Duncan On Amapiano Taking Over

Whilst the prjoect might be called a success, Duncan believes there’s one reason for the lack of hype and it’s Amapiano. Taking to twitter, Duncan candidly said that SA Hip Hop might not want to admit it because of pride but Amapiano has taken over. “Amapiano has fully taken over, Sesingagoloza nje phela ngoba sine pride,” Duncan tweeted.

This tweet might be linked to the current state of SA Hip-hop having to go back to back with Amapiano and both sides trying to prove which genre is the most dominant in the country from the what’s being frequently going up on Television, Radio and streaming platforms.

The Amapiano wave has seen some of the top rappers like Cassper Nyovest, Reason, Major League DJs venture into the genre to stay on the charts.

The two have managed two reunite after their fallout from a feud which Duncan said was fuelled by Durban underground rappers. They have handed the industry scene a collector’s piece with their joint album to make sure that the SA Hip-hop scene is unshaken. We can only hope that we get more Collabos from the two Vernac rappers contributing to the charts as the new wave of amapiano continues to takeover hopefully not phasing each other out but surging around the continent representing South Africa.
