J.Cole Responds To The Backlash He Received For Mocking Autistic People On Drake’s Jodeci Freestyle

J.Cole got into a bit of controversy last week when his verse on Drake’s Jodeci freestyle received backlash for being deemed insulting to people with Autism.

J isn’t known as someone who is always out there to cause or be involved in negative chaos, but this time around it seemed inevitable. He admitted on a statement released that he was being ignorant on his lyrics and passed on a sincere apology to those he offended.

“Go check the numbers dummy, that’s just me gettin’ started/I’m artistic, you niggas is autistic, retarded,” read part of the lyrics.

“In a recent verse on the song ‘Jodeci Freestyle,’ I said something highly offensive to people with Autism,” Cole said. “Last week, when I first saw a comment from someone outraged about the lyric, I realized right away that what I said was wrong.

“I was instantly embarrassed that I would be ignorant enough say something so hurtful. What makes the crime worse is that I should have known better,” he added.

Drake also shared his views on the matter further apologizing and admitting to have learnt a lesson.

“I share responsibility and offer my sincerest apologies for the pain this has caused. Individuals with autism have brilliant and creative minds, and their gifts should not be disparaged or discounted.

“This was a learning lesson for both of us, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to try to right this wrong,” wrote Drake.

In result the verse has been edited in the song.
