LucasRaps Recalls Dropping Out Of School To Pursue Rap Career

LucasRaps Recalls Dropping Out Of School To Pursue Rap Career. LucasRaps lately has been making noise on the hip hop streets, as he bags deal after deal. The rapper recently became the latest signee to Def Jam Recordings Africa, a noteworthy achievement especially, as he is yet to drop his own full project.

LucasRaps has been causing waves with his stellar verses on the features he has landed. The 20-year-old rapper dropped out of school in Grade 10 to pursue his dreams and so far it seems the decision is paying off. Lucasrap does not encourage anyone to drop out of school but shared his story with the Sowetan to motivate out to “never give up on your dreams”.

In 2017, Lucasraps decided to follow his dreams by dropping out of school. He recalled the moment in an interview with the Sowetan. “It was a normal school day. I woke up early and chilled with my friends. But then I had a big argument with one of my teachers in class,” Lucasraps recounts. “It was a computer class and you can’t drink or eat in there. Those were the rules. I was hungry and didn’t eat in the first break. I was just being weird that day.

“We did maths literacy first and then computer studies; it was the same teacher. She caught me eating and kicked me out. She was too upset about it, more than her usual reaction. I made a scene.” LucasRaps shared with the publication that he first told his friends at school that he was dropping out and they laughed at him. He later had a talk with the school’s deputy principal about his big decision. The rapper explained to the deputy his academic troubles and his dream about his rap career. LucasRaps also freestyled for the deputy principal before he signed his T-shirt, which most of his friends declined to sign.

The rapper’s parents were not happy about Lucasraps decision to drop out the school but they have come to understand his music journey. “I am blessed to have the parents that I have and they do support me. They raised me well and I’m the gentleman that I am today because of them,” Lucasraps explained. “At first I had to be rebellious for them to understand my music journey. They were just parents and I understand that. I don’t hate them for it,” he told the publication.
