Nadia Nakai Opens Up About Getting Paid Less Than Men & Being Compelled To Look “Sexy”. On a recent interview with Cosmopolitan which rapper Nadia Nakai graced an August Cover for, she opened up about so much more.
Being a woman in the Hip hop industry isn’t easy as most females have said. Nadia has like most female rappers been facing the challenges where they had to work twice as hard to prove their worth. Since it is a male dominated industry, women find themselves being compelled to accept getting paid less than men.
Nadia revealed her personal experiences of patriarchy in the work place. “I am already not getting paid as much as the guys, and my money is getting chopped a hundred more times to make sure that I can become a brand that people can respect and want to enjoy,’ she said Speaking to the magazine.
She further spoke about how she had to work hard to prove herself and that there’s so much that goes into being a female musician.
“If I didn’t work as hard as I have, I wouldn’t be where I am today,’ she said. “Cassper could’ve signed any pretty female. It’s difficult for a man to understand my perspective and what I am trying to deliver. A woman has to do so much more – that’s why girls have to care about more than the music. You have to think about your hair, you have to think about your nails, you have to think about what you are wearing… You can’t just be a musician.”
