Recently, AKA took to social media and shared that the song has been officially certified platinum. AKA’s celebration for the success of his single was short-lived after the rapper got into a tussle with Nigerians into a Twitter twar.

It all began when AKA mentioned Kanye lyrics on his timeline. “After debris settles and the dust get swept off Big K pick up where young Hov left off Right when magazines wrote Kanye West off I dropped my new shit, it sound like the best of A&R’s lookin’ like “Pssh, we messed up” Grammy night, damn right, we got dressed up.” tweeted AKA.

In response; a Nigerian Twitter account couldn’t even withstand the impulse to drag AKA, stating that since he was only a “local musician,” he had no right to be compared to Kanye or even other prominent Nigerian artists. “Nigerian artist are filling up world stages, SA artist are busy been local celebs,” read the tweet.

AKA appears to have taken the criticism seriously; the rapper continued to support South African artists while omitting to acknowledge his own accomplishments in favour of those of other well-known local figures who had previously represented their nation on international stages.

Black Coffee is from where? Ladysmith Black Mambazo is from where? Focalistic is from where? Nasty C is from where? Musa Keys is from where? Charlize Theron is from where? …. MANDELA is from where? … shut up. Rest.” AKA tweeted.

Initially, there was back and forth that was amicable as any conflict based on geographic disparities. Eventually, the conversation turned to recap AKA’s earlier conflict with Nigerian Twitter. During the 2019 political unrest, which was reported globally as xenophobic attacks, celebrities such as Tiwa Savage and Burna Boy dragged South Ah for excrement.

AKA was the most effective spokesperson for South Africa. This led to an intense exchange between him and a former working partner, Burna Boy, who threatened to use physical force the next time they crossed paths.

As if the first troll was not enough, another Nigerian Twitter account tried the resurrect the drag by talking about the xenophobic attack on foreign nationals in South Africa. “Come to south and do what! So u can k!ll my brothers and sisters out of jealousy, don’t think we forgot the xenophobic acts carried out by ur people. U really gat no shame, Mid artist in a mid country.” Read the tweet.

In response to xenophobic claims AKA said; “Bullsh*t. Speak facts!!! If there really was a “genocide” or “massacre” of your citizens in this country wouldn’t your government have announced the NAMES or number of fatalities?? CNN fed you fake news and you devoured it.”
