African Unite Concert Cancels As It Drops Burna Boy From Performing, Black Twitter Reacts
African Unite Concert Cancels As It Drops Burna Boy From Performing, Black Twitter Reacts. After a flood of complaints came in rooting against Burna Boy performing in the event, African Unite Concert finally reaches a decision.
It has now been brought to the public that the concert which was set to take place later this month will no longer be happening. Prior this announcement of cancelling they dropped Burna boy. The Nigerian singer was set as a headliner of the show. Unfortunately due to his past Twitter rants about Xenophobia in South Africa, people boycotted his participation in the show.
This decision comes after Tshwane Entertainment Collective representing artists lodged complaints detailing threats should the show not cancel Burna.
“We call on the MEC of economic development and the premier in Gauteng to ensure that any and all funding support endorsement by Gauteng Tourism or any state entity be withdrawn from the Africa Unite Concert immediately,” the group demanded.
It also called on musicians and fans to do their part by boycotting the event.
“We encourage all local artists, whose livelihood is attached to the success of our industry, to stand in solidarity with our cause for justice and due process by withdrawing from performing at the concert. Our cause should be a shared one as the outcomes benefit us all. We encourage all members of the public to return their purchased tickets to the event for a refund.”
