Emtee Gloats On How He Invented African Trap Music. When it comes to the origin of musical genres it’s rarely easy to determine who invented it, how and when. The cause of this is how a number of people claim credit to inventing those, but with African Trap Music there is some clarity.

Mthembeni Ndevu famously known as Emtee may be going through a rough patch but he walks around with the pride that he invented something spectacular. The rapper proclaimed that he is the brain behind African Trap Music.

Trap music per say is a genre within Hi hop that was developed in the early 2000s in the Southern United States. The biggest names to make best of this genre include Lil Wayne who happens to be Emtee’s favourite artist, Gucci Mane, Migos and Future.

ATM as a genre is characterized by trap production which has subtle South African sensibilities. Lyrically, it’s characterized by storytelling, relatable lyrics and melodies that reference South African genres such as Afro pop, maskandi and mbhaqanga.
