AKA On How He Met Cassper Nyovest! AKA and Cassper’s beef is one that will still be talked about in generations to come when it comes to SA Hip-Hop. But it didn’t start off on a bitter note for two of the biggest rappers on the continent.

In his recent candid interview, AKA opened up about the first time he discovered Cassper’s music, what he initially thought of him and how they met for the first time. AKA revealed he first heard a Cassper song on YFM’s Hot 9 at 9 and it was him who put Khuli Chana on to Cassper‘s music.

“I thought it was really cool [Cassper’s music]. He had a song called rongo or something like that and I was like, ‘this is not bad'”, AKA said. “We was friends man, he even came to my crib, I even made Sunday lunch for the dude,” AKA added.

Asked why they stopped being friends, AKA blamed it on twitter. “Competition, when you’re in the same space. Hip hop brews that… you know how these things start mehn. Ultimately it was really about ‘yo, we finna be the doggs and there’s not enough space for the both of us. I don’t even think there is a reason. I don’t even know why we started beefing but thank g-d we did because that beef really blew us up till this day,” AKA explained.

“The problem is that me and him are the exact same person. There’s no room for both of us. It’s one or the other… one must die,” AKA said laughing. AKA says now there’s genuine dislike of each other but also believes they have respect for each other.
