Riky Rick Names 3 SA Musicians Who Made Him Decide To Rap

Riky Rick is no doubt one of the top biggest rappers in SA and it’s interesting to know the musicians who got him to decide to do music. In an interview he did with MacG, Riky took the time to share 3 artists who had that impact on him.

Even though as a rapper many people would expect Riky to only list rappers, his list was quite surprising as at the top Riky cited Mapaputsi as his biggest motivation or inspiration. 

Mapaputsi is a kwaito pioneer and continues to be a true innovator. Mapaputsi was born in Zola (a neighborhood in Soweto). He started his professional musical career in 1998 working with artists like TKZee, Chiskop, Sbu a.k.a. Maloya and Mischief & Mavusana.

In addition Riky mention Pitch Black Afro who was a prominent rapper in the early 2000s, unfortunately Afro  is currently in jail over his wife’s murder. 

HHP was another rapper he mentioned who has since passed away but a well accomplish musician who is generally credited for putting Motswako musician on the world map.
