Nadia Nakai On Why Signing To Def Jam Africa Is A Big Deal For Rappers

Nadia Nakai On Why Signing To Def Jam Africa Is A Big Deal For Rappers! Earlier this week, Def Jam announced the launch of their African division and the artists signed to it.

Among the talent were SA rappers including Nadia Nakai, Tshego and Cassper Nyovest. Nadia has not played it cool on how major this deal is for her career. Speaking to BBC Africa, Bragga explained what this means to her after eight years in the game and to SA Hip Hop as a whole.

“It feels amazing to be honest with you because I grew up watching the music videos with that Def Jam logo at the end and it felt like it was the fraternity of Hip Hop. A lot of the artists that I listen to like Ludacris and DMX were part of that label,” Nadia said.

“For me it’s so exciting also being announced with other artists because it feels like a Hip Hop movement and I feel like that’s what’s going to inspire African Hip Hop artists to wanna be a part of Def Jam cause it wasn’t just about being a part of a label but being a part of a group of people that were under that label,” Nadia explained.

Nadia shared that she believes her hard work over the years has brought her to this major deal in her career.

“I think the one thing that I bring is tenacity and knowing the value of longevity. Knowing the fact that an artist who started from point A, didn’t rush to point B worked her way to get to a certain level to be able to be signed to a label like Def Jam. It creates a legacy. I think people need to be inspired to remember that good things come to those who work for it,” she added.
