“You’ve never been as poor as me” – Yanga Chief On Being Called A Broke Rapper

“You’ve never been as poor as me,” Yanga Chief On Being Called A Broke Rapper. It’s nothing new to come across rappers who have been ridiculed by the public because of the status they hold in the game. For years after releasing uTatakho Eastern Cape born rapper Yanga didn’t have it easy with the public.

Staying true to his ethics, he thrived until he managed to reach certain heights and break a few boundaries. Ofcourse AKA was there to help him on his rise, in fact the friendship between the two even landed them on the same stable.

According to the rapper critics have called him a broke rapper, he didn’t specify if it easy after or before his project Becoming A Pop Star flourished. After hopping onto various labels, Chief decided to be independent which took a drain on him financially. He stated once that being an independent artist isn’t a walk in the park but is of great benefit if the end result isn’t just predicted to be greater but is known for sure.

“Thank God I’m signed to myself. I mean, it would be nice if I didn’t have to reinvest in my craft ? but the day it finally rains, ima be wet wet,” he wrote back in February.

When a follower challenged his view under the hashtag Put South Africa First, he went back and forth with them. That was when he objected to the talk of being privileged and highlighted being once dubbed a struggling rapper.
