Zakwe Hints That He Will From Now On Be Quitting Vernac Rap To Go Strictly English. Before Hip hop became the most popular genre in South Africa Kwaito was the most predominant.
As the likes of Proverb, Stogie T and Jozi crew to mention a few made the English rap go mainstream Kwaito took a back seat. When the new generation of rappers got into music, using vernac in the same style as Kwaito didn’t pretty much gain them as much recognition.
The likes of Duncan, Zakwe, HHP, Khuli Chana, Big Zulu and Zulu Boy became a few rappers to use vernac. Although they have won their share, english seemed to have sold more. Realizing such led to some diluting more of their sound with English.
Zakwe is currently working on a new album after Cebisa which he expressed how desperately he wanted it to go gold. To try and gain more fan base to reach his first gold status in his 10 years in the industry he hinted that he will now use English.
