5 Local Hip Hop Femcee’s To Watch Out For

Quite an exciting time for the South African Hip Hop scene as female rappers are putting the pedal to the metal and are earning some credentials and recognition as worthy contender’s in the game.

The leading female rappers such as Nadia Nakai, Rouge, Gigi Lamayne, Moozlie, Fifi Cooper, Boity, Sho Madjozi and more have been paving the way for new female rappers on the block and the new wave of female rappers are focused on raising the bar even higher.

The women of hip hop have spoken about the bias treatment they receive as entertainers, always being marginalised and made to feel less than however, things are slowly but surely changing for the netter, one dope femcee at a time.

Below is a list of the female rappers that you should be excited about this year because they are putting in the work and are here for the take over.

Dee Koala

Cape Town born rapper Dee Koala was inspired by her story telling abilities which led to her interest in music at just the tender age of 12-years-old. Fast forward to today, the rapper has gone to work with some dope artist including Yanga Chief in assisting with her fire Xhosa inspired verse’s.

Faith K

Faith K has been at it for a little while and already the rapper is working with the best in the biz as a powerhouse rapper, singer and dancer with a colourful personality. The Johannesburg based rapper is adding on to the list of vernacular rapper’s with the use of English and her Tsonga heritage in her lyrics.

Astryd Brown

Astryd Brown is a Johannesburg singer/ rapper and songwriter signed to Playground Productions coming straight out of Eldos, and has been solidifying her presence in the hip hop world with tracks featuring heavyweight female rappers such as Nadia Nakai on a collaboration titled ‘Lately’ as well as Rouge on a joint titled ‘They Know’ and many more.

Hanna

Hanna is a young female rapper Currently studying at the University of Cape Town who has earned the respect of heavy weight rappers such as Nasty C and has won major competitions for her dope rapping/ singing, producing, and songwriting skills.

Nadia Jaftha

She may not have received the best reception from the crowd for her latest collaboration with the likes of YoungstaCPT but either way, all publicity is good publicity and we hope she will prove the masses wrong with some new music in due time.
