Pretoria Boasts Incomparable Up And Coming Hip Hop Talent

In 2020 alone South Africa has seen exceptional talent coming from the city of Pretoria that has flooded the hip-hop industry with nothing other than good flow, rhythmic beats and all-round good vibes. The music scene in Pretoria is tight knit with rappers collaborating with each other and sounding flawless together on each other’s projects. Here are four Pretoria rappers to watch out for in 2021.

Thato Saul

Hailing from Pretoria West, Thato Saul draws listeners in with his vernacular flow and relatable lyrics. The rapper has three projects out on streaming platforms, one of which is a collaboration with fellow Pretoria native Tyson S.T titled At Your Service. Saul released his first album in December 2019 titled For God’s Sake and his second in December 2020 titled Members Only. In his music he pays tribute to his city and his friends and family.

Tyson S.T

Tyson S.T (short for Tyson Sybateli) is an independent artist whose unique raunchy sound draws listeners toward his music giving him that competitive edge amongst his peers. The rapper releases his first full length project in 2019 which he self-titled that featured Skyffa, Wolph Gnarly and DoouShii. His 2020 release Snakes Favour Me: The Performance Album – EP featured Huey, Miles and was produced DoouShii.

Huey is no stranger to the South African hip-hop scene; his music is calm and motivating and carries himself exceptionally well over the beats he chooses for his projects.  His latest project Chasing Magic features singer-songwriters ThandoNje and Tron Pyre and fellow rapper Tyson S.T. This follows his 2019 release Memories of My Angel an ode to his mother. The rapper also made an appearance on Channel O’s Lockdown House Party in 2020.

Mixed and Mastered by DoouShii, Miles’ EP dropped in April 2020 which he titled ‘Early Arrival’. The EP tells a story of Miles’ family life and his struggles as a young man navigating life. The standout song of the EP is ADVICE that features DoouShii and Francis Jay. The young rapper is also featured on Tyson S.T’s album Snakes Four Me: The Performance Album.
