5 Rappers Who’ve Received a Platinum Plaque For A Single. Platinum selling artists are a rarity in South Africa. When rappers do achieve platinum selling status it is a massive achievement. Here is a list of 5 rappers who have been certified platinum.
- AKA
Supa Mega was the first artist in South Africa to receive multi diamond certification from RiSA. AKA has received platinum plaques for his singles The World Is Yours, Caiphus Song, All Eyes On Me, and Fela in Versace. He also has other singles that have been certified Gold and Diamond.
2. Kwesta
In 2019 Kwesta’s album DaKar II was the highest selling Hip-Hop Album in the country. From DaKar II, Kwesta achieved a few platinum selling singles which were Day One, Mayibabo, Ngud that sold 7x platinum and Nomayini that sold 3x platinum. Kwesta’s stand alone single Spirit featuring Wale sold 3x platinum.
3. Cassper Nyovest
Cassper’s albums have always achieved success, he seems to schedule his releases before his Fill Up events. Cassper has achieved platinum selling status for his song Good For That, Move For Me, and Remote Control. In 2017 he received a multi-platinum plaque for selling 10 million units of his albums.
4. Boity
Boity made history and became the first female rapper in South Africa to receive a platinum plaque. Her first ever single Wuz Dat featuring Nasty C received platinum status. The song achieved 3.4 million streams at the time. She has also received a gold plaque for her feature on Yanga Chief’s Utatakho remix.
5. K.O
K.O bagged a platinum plaque for his single off his PTYunLTD album Supa Dupa at the start of 2020. The track was the only one from the album to receive platinum status. K.O has also achieved Gold status for his album Skhanda Republic.
