K.O Talks Being Business Savvy With Hip-Hop Releases

K.O Talks Being Business Savvy With Hip-Hop Releases. South Africa is home to fans of many different music genres. From Kwaito and Gqom to R&B and Electronic new artists are introduced to the music scene every year. However, Hip-Hop has become one of the most prominent genres in the country.

K.O recently joined ZkhiphantiTV for a three-part interview discussing the evolution of hip-hop in South Africa and touching on up and coming rappers. He mentions that in South Africa alone, rappers are competing with other artists of other genres and those factors should be taken into consideration.

The consumer of Hip-Hop is outnumbered by the people that listen to Gospel and that listen to even the amapiano stuff. We are still pretty much niche in a certain way but the reason why we end up having the commercial impact is because from time to time we make cross over music that connects with all those other people from those different genres.” K.O said.

The Lucky Star maker specifically spoke about how hip-hop rappers in South Africa need to be more business savvy when thinking of releasing their music.

We need to be mindful of the fact that if I put out a song today, I’m competing with Master KG, I’m competing with Zonke, I’m competing with Simmy and all these other guys. I’m not just competing with Cassper or competing with Nasty C, so it starts with just being business savvy on that level. I need to make sure that I appeal to as many people as possible”, K.O continued.
