LucasRaps Talks Getting His Name And Meeting Nasty C As A Teenager. LucasRaps was named as one of OkayAfrica’s 13 South African artists to watch for 2021. The young rapper’s ability to float on a beat always leaves fans wanting more.
The Big Time Sh’lappa collaborator sat down for an interview with presenter Kim Jayde on her YouTube show “Kickin It With Kim Jayde”. The two spoke on a variety of topics before getting into how LucasRaps met Nasty C for the first time and got his stage name ‘LucasRaps’.
He told Kim that he had planned to go watch Nasty’s performance at Huawei Durban Day when he was 15 years old. He got into contact with Junior Lavie an event promoter from Durban. Lucas rapped a freestyle for him and his friend Charlie.
“He was very happy with the freestyle, and he was like yo’ who do you wanna see today? and I said Nasty. And he dug in his pocket gave me his car keys and said go to my car.” Lucas said.
“Got into the car, Charlie was there then Lavie got into the car. He said what’s your name? I said Lucas. He said Lucas..? Then said LucasRaps! You are LucasRaps“. He explained that Lavie gave him that name in 2016.
The two big shots took a young LucasRaps to meet Nasty C at the Suncoast Hotel in Durban. After Lucas rapped for Nasty C he was apart of his convoy of vehicles to Huawei Durban Day.
Lucas shared what Nasty C said to him to invite him on stage. “I’m gonna call you and do a 16“. Since then, the two rappers have not connected but Lucas has been apart of the promotional shoots for Nasty C’s merchandise.
