Nota Baloyi Criticizes New Generation Of Rappers For Their Absence Amidst University Registration Protests. Nota Baloyi often shares his unfiltered opinion about the SA hip-hop industry and social issues that South Africa is facing at that moment.

Nota Baloyi recently took to his Instagram page to share his opinion about how the new generation of South African rappers can be more active amidst the university protests for registration.

He mentioned that the generation of HHP and AKA marched next to the students and stopping them from shooting at the students. Those rappers were present from UCT to Wits. He poses a question and asks when hip-hop became so removed from societal issues.

“This Generation of rappers of so-called SA hip-hop artists is the most useless ever… Hip-Hop artists is the most useless ever… “

“In 2015 AKA, Yanga Chief, Kid X Hip-Hop Pantsula were marching among the students and demanding change and stopping the police from shooting at them from the University of Cape Town to the University of the Witwatersrand and even the North West University.“

“All They care for is Freshers Gigs. Don’t even get me started on their silence when gender based violence goes unpunished and their promotion of rap culture in their lyrics. When did Hip-Hop become so tone deaf and removed from societal issues?“

SA Rappers have always been active in the fight against student issues. In 2018 AKA gave R100 000 to a committee at Wits toward the Fees Must Fall fight.

Rappers Cassper Nyovest and iFani gave a combined R100 000 to the movement to put towards student debt.

Gigi Lamayne has also spoken against Fees Must Fall and was an active voice during the movement. She used her platform as one of the prominent rappers in SA and released a song titled Fees Must Fall to bring more awareness to the movement.
