AKA mourns the death of his Fiancé

Iconic South African rapper AKA, known by family and friends as Kieran Forbes is currently grieving the death of his beloved partner, Anele Tembe. Nellie, as she was affectionately known, was reported to have sadly passed away in the early hours of Sunday, the 11th April in Cape Town

AKA is said to be inconsolable after being informed of the news that his beloved had died, and is naturally currently seeking grief counselling as he begins the long and hard journey of mourning the woman he cherished most.

The Hip Hop mogul is known for his flair and style, sometimes being referenced by the media for not being afraid to experiment with different looks and images. He is also recognised as being one of the greatest hip hop artists that South Africa has ever produced, and has received critical acclaim for his work.

AKA began his career with a group that went by the name of Entity, comprised of himself, together with friends “Vice Versa” and “Greyhound”. The group enjoyed partial success that culminated in the nomination for a KORA award in the Best African Hip Hop category.

His work with Entity lasted four years, and in 2006, the group went their separate ways. It was around this time that Forbes went ahead to study sound engineering. In the very same year, AKA went on to co-found the production collective “The I.V League” which received production credits from a number of big name artists.

In 2010, AKA released “I Want it All”, the lead single for his career defining debut studio album  Altar Ego with the single “Victory Lap”, another pre-release from the album, putting the rapper/producer on the South African hip hop map. The track quickly gained popularity with its rise and eventual topping of local radio charts.

The album went on to win a variety of awards, including best hip hop album at the 2011 Metro FM Awards, and Forbes bagged the best male hip hop artist award for his work on the album. From here, the artist went on to produce and perform a number of number one singles.

Most recently, the South African superstar bagged Favourite South African star at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in 2019, and won the Music Video of the Year at the 26th South African Music Awards in 2020.

In 2017, Forbes tried his hand in the business world with the launch of Beam digital, a service aimed at revolutionizing the way artists and fans engage through the application of innovative mobile technologies. 2017 was a big year for the star, as it was also the year he partnered with betting giants, Betway

4 years on, and Beam digital is no more, which is currently the least of the superstars concerns. His Fiancee of less than a month and half took with her a piece of the Cape Town born Mogul’s soul, leaving him reeling.

Forbes announced the pair’s engagement in February 2021, leaving her death that much more painful.
