Makwa Reveals What He Was Told When He Called A Suicide Hotline. Successful producer Makwa has recently started speaking out about the struggles he has faced with his mental health in the SA Hip Hop industry. He has worked tirelessly to ensure that he produces some top notch hits for some SA rappers and it has since affected his mental state.
The Ayipheli hit maker was The Sobering Podcast’s latest guest. Along with the three podcast hosts they spoke about Makwa’s rise into the SA Hip Hop, the music and artists he has worked with as long as the rise and fall of Rap Lyf Records. One of the podcast hosts asked Makwa if he was mentally okay and if he was getting any help for his mental health.
Makwa responded no, and that he’s not getting any help for it. He mentioned that back then when he was still apart of Rap Lyf Records he tried to reach put for help to a suicide hotline. “This person said to me, no. You are just going through a phase” he said. After he got that response he also felt that maybe he was overreacting.
He said that Leroy Khoza helped him out with getting him a therapist and Makwa did reach out to the therapist but they were never able to meet. The successful producer says he also spoke to Leroy about his concerns.
Makwa recently took to his Instagram Live to demand he be paid what his owe to him by artists he has produced for. He shared a confidential statement from SAMPRA (South African Music Performance Rights Association) that only states that he has only ever produced 8 songs in his entire career.
When Makwa posted about his disconnect to music, pH Raw X defended him saying that he shouldn’t be feeling this way because producers are a big part of the music creating process.
