Cassper Shares His Heartbreak Over Ticket Pro Dome Closure! An end of an era! The Ticketpro Dome, in Johannesburg on September 7 will be closing its doors for good.
The legendary live events venue has seen some of the biggest names in hip hop from Cassper Nyovest to Lil Wayne, Jay Z and Nicki Minaj perform at the iconic venue. The popular venue has been sold by owners, Sasol Pension Fund to a third party which unfortunately does not operate in the event space. Unfortunately, the iconic venue has not been able to operate since 2020 when public gatherings were first banned in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
On 8 April 1998, the Dome opened its door for the first time with a concert by Diana Ross with over 15 000 people in attendance that included late former President Nelson Mandela. In 2015, rapper Cassper Nyovest made history by being the first local artist to sell out tickets for his show #FillUpTheDome at the iconic venue, he sold over 20 000 tickets.
Cassper shared his thought on the closure saying, “this hurts”. The rapper went on to reveal that he had wanted to one more sure when the country opens. “This hurts. wanted to do 1 more show there when the country opens. I’m not okay,” tweeted Mufasa.
This now means that beer brand Castle Lite will have to find a new venue for their legendary Castle Lite Unlocks Concert, which has seen Travis Scott, Post Malone, J Cole and Meek Mill. The beer brand has had to postpone bringing US rapper Cardi B due to the pandemic for their 2020 Castle Lite Unlocks.
Carol Weaving, MD of RX Africa, says: “The selling of the Ticketpro Dome is extremely disappointing and heartbreaking for our industry. The Ticketpro Dome has been home to many international concerts and events in South Africa, and this will undoubtedly leave a huge void. Unfortunately, as we are only the managing company, we were unable to change the outcome of Sasol Pension Fund selling the venue due to force majeure.”
“The Ticketpro Dome solidified global recognition with companies and promoters throughout several industries and will be remembered as an iconic venue across the events, exhibitions, and entertainment sectors,” said a statement released by RX Venue Management.

The closure of the indoor venue is yet another blow to the entertainment, events, and exhibitions industry because of the Covid-19 pandemic as several theatres, venues and businesses have had to close their doors.
