NPA Allegedly Orders Western Cape Police To Further Investigate Anele Tembe’s Death
NPA Allegedly Orders Western Cape Police To Further Investigate Anele Tembe’s Death! It’s been just over three months since Anele Tembe’s tragic death at a Cape Town hotel where she was staying with fiance AKA. Reports now allege that the National Prosecuting Authority has ordered the Western Cape Police to further investigate the circumstances leading to Tembe’s death, according to City Press.
The publication reports that the decision came after AKA’s “tell all” interview he did back in May where he shared some revealing details about his relationship with Anele including the alleged suicide attempts and self harm incidents. The publication reports that whilst the interview helped in closing the initial inquest, it led to the NPA requesting a second investigation when it was handed over to them for review. A close source told City Press that the NPA came back and said to the police that they had not followed the standard procedure in an inquest investigation as they had approached the case as if there was a murder suspect.
The interview at the centre of the new investigation happened back in May where AKA sat down with journalist Thembekhile Mrototo to tell his side of the story. In the interview, AKA said he had never abused Anele and recounted the moments before Anele’s death saying, “The thing that really breaks my heart and I still have her ring with me, it’s really the last… the only thing of hers, of her belongings, and she took it off she threw it at me and then we said very mean things to each other and so I left the room. Came back to the room because I had taken her phone and obviously we continued to argue and then things took a turn for the worst when we had gotten to a point in the argument where Anele had kind of threatened to kill herself. …To you know, jump off the balcony. She didn’t say it in those words though. I had called reception for security and I tried to remove myself from the situation, I think maybe out of panic. I didn’t want to be there or kind of feel that this was going to happen, I kind of wanted to remove myself. So I went to the bathroom, and when I came out the bathroom she wasn’t in the room“.
Anele’s father Moses, had told City Press how he felt about AKA’s tell all saying, “I watched the interview, it was an emotional issue, not really about Kiernan, but every time the name of my daughter is mentioned, even if it’s for encouragement, it evokes feelings.”
On the investigation, Mr Tembe told the publication how he was leaving it all to the police. “We aren’t involved in that side of the process. It’s something we’d like to leave to the police, who are following their processes. We look forward to receiving their reports. We don’t believe we should interfere or rush them. They need time to investigate thoroughly.”
