Costa Titch Explains Why He Was Disappointed In Not Getting A SAMA Nomination. Awards are a big deal sometimes for artists, especially when you know you have had a successful run and feel that you deserve to receive a nod for the work that you have submitted for consideration. The South Ah music award scene is one that some people no longer take as serious, especially since that awards are bought and some individuals no longer see the value in award ceremonies. The South African Music Awards (SAMAs) are awards that always receive mixed reviews from fans and artists in regards to winners and nominations.

Costa Titch during his recent interview on podcast Life With Lebang revealed that he was left rather disappointed when he didn’t bag a nomination for the annual SAMAs. Costa was left so disappointed that he even put his feelings in his music. On the podcast, Costa Titch and his collaborator AKA broke down some of the lyrics on their joint collaboration EP, You’re Welcome. Costa explained his line, on the track, Yizo Yizo, “I ain’t got the Samas but I got the summer, who the f**k you know that’s stacking up the numbers”.

“For us, it was like we looked at everyone who was nominated and no disrespect but everyone was signed and that for us was like you know actually that sucks. Now we have to sign in order to get a nomination. So I was like that’s how that line came to me,” explained Costa. “It’s straight-up that I didn’t have the SAMAs but Ive got the summer and when it comes to the numbers, we really are doing more numbers than people that are signed,” added Costa.

“That’s like the first two lines I say on Yizo Yizo, the intro of the project. Basically, for me, it was just a thing of like as a team we were so disappointed when we didn’t even get a nomination for the SAMAs,” shared Costa Titch. Host Lebang then went on to ask, “do they still count?” Costa responded that, “regardless of that, I’m new to the industry, so those things do count.” AKA who has won several SAMA awards added that getting a SAMA nomination is something, Costa would like to cross off his list.

The SAMAs always manage to stir the pot when it comes to nominations. Nadia Nakai has previously expressed disappointment over being overlooked by the SAMAs. In 2020, the rapper shared her frustrations about not being nominated. “Listen, I know my album is good… I’ve been around to long to know that these awards don’t really mean shit…. Imma keep moving….always.” tweeted Bragga.
