Priddy Ugly’s Strong Message To Those Publicly Distancing Themselves From SA Hip Hop. The defenders of SA Hip Hop are not here for the current negative conversation around the genre and are taking not of those who have publicly distanced themselves from the genre. Several comments have been made about the current state of SA Hip Hop and not all comments that have been made have been positive. Comments that Hip Hop is dead have been trending on social media. The comments have been coming from SA Hip Hop fans and insiders, while there have been negative things said many people have also taken to social media to defend the genre.
Rapper Priddy Ugly who dropped his sophomore album, SOIL, in July has taken to Twitter to deliver a rather strong message to those who have spoken negatively about SA Hip Hop. Priddy’s message however is specifically directed to individuals who have, shunned and distanced themselves from SA Hip Hop on social media. The rapper in his tweet let the individuals know that they should not expect to reap the rewards from SA Hip Hop music once the genre is winning.
“Those that openly & publicly shunned & distanced themselves from SA Hip Hop.. Don’t expect a plate when WE’re dishing up & dining again… But we’ll let you know when di kotlolo need cleaning…” wrote the rapper in his tweet. Priddy sure got his followers talking with his strong message, some of his fans and followers were in support of his tweet, whilst some were just not in support. One tweep seemed to think that Priddy’s message was sparked by artist Cassper Nyovest’s recent tweet announcing he would be dropping a new hip hop song in September. Priddy has not confirmed this or mentioned the rapper in his tweet. SA Hip Hop presenter Rouge agreed with Priddy’s statement and retweeted his tweet and wrote, “TELL. THEM.”
Priddy went on to tweet “Just because the sun is shining, it doesn’t mean the moon is dying.” The rapper went on to explain that it is okay for amapiano to thrive and people should embrace this. However, this doesn’t mean the other genres cannot be enjoyed as well. “It’s perfectly fine for Amapiano to thrive, let’s embrace that. But It doesn’t mean that other genres can’t be enjoyed too..HIP HOP can never die, we multiply!” Priddy explained.
Priddy’s comments were not directed at Cassper, this is something he made clear when he retweeted Maggz’s tweet and said “My sentiments…”. In his tweet, Maggz made it clear, that him showing love to SA Hip Hop is not a response to Cassper. “First of all I’m hardly on social media and me showing love to SA hip hop today because of the high activity has some how become some reply to @casspernyovest,” tweeted Maggz. Priddy’s comments could however be directed at “toxic fans” who he credits as inciting confusion and separation. “Toxic fans, egocentric & insecure artists & instigative publications incite confusion & separation within the culture,” tweeted Priddy.
