Some have been calling him the “Lockdown Rapper” simply because he has managed to flourish under very difficult circumstances in South African music. Blxckie ascension has been breathtaking to witness, the Durban rapper has managed to utilize the opportunity that came with the lockdown as he was able to produce freestyles, tracks, and music videos on a regular basis.

Spotify’s “Wrapped” rankings for 2021 have been unveiled, indicating which artists and tracks South Africans have streamed the most this year. Blxckie has managed to represent the SA hip hop culture after his album secured the second position on the Spotify most streamed albums in Mzansi. Nonetheless, Blxckie’s ‘B4Now’ Album is the only hip hop album that has managed to get a node in the Top 10 Spotify most streamed album in Mzansi.

Blxckie’s rap game has been embraced by a huge follower in Mzansi and the Spotify list is a clear evident to what the artist has done in a very short space of time. Ever since his cameo he’s had songs like “Big Time Sh’lappa,” “Uppity,” “Stripes,” and, most recently, “Ye x4”, which includes  Nasty C that have rocked the music streams.

His album ‘B4Now’ is a mash-up of music from that era of exploding talent and newer material. The rapper  appears refined across the album, which clocks in at 12 songs. In his trap-based album Somnyama displayed his various styles of rap as he recounts his past, opens up about his family. Despite being one of the rappers who have not shifted to Amapiano, Somnyama implemented the bits and pieces of the Yano sounds in one of his songs “Sika” which exposed his creative genius.

B4Now is a nice play that signals the start of a run that might dominate South African hip-hop. Hence, here’s to many more Blxckie!
