It has been an eventful year in the SA hip hop game with young rappers coming through the ranks producing some brilliant unique sounds to keep the rap life alive. Gud Guluva – Kwesta

Kwesta Suffers Yet Another Financial Blow

Kwesta dropped his follow-up album to his 2016 effort, Dakar II, after five years of fans waiting with anticipation. Fans get to explore Kwesta experiment with different sounds and genres, like as his Amapiano-inspired song Hamba Nawe, which he collaborated on with Thabsie. In addition, Hamba Nawe, Fire In The Ghetto, and Kubo stood out as notable tunes on the album.

Logan – Emtee

Emtee wowed the entire country with the premiere of Logan, his highly awaited fifth studio album. The project was moving because the rapper told his personal narrative whilst generating some of the finest choruses and lyrics from the Roll Up artist. His album B4Now produced some hit tracks that have put Blxckie amongst the top rappers of 2021. To sum it up, his album was the 2nd streamed South African album on Spotify. As if that is not enough, Somnyama was named the South Africa’s MTV Base Hottest MCs of 2021.

Big Zulu – Ichwane Lenyoka 

The name of the artist itself clearly indicate that he is poised to do great things, and that has been the case for Big Zulu. “Ichwane Lenyoka” is a 20-song collection that begins with a namesake song and closes with “Dear PRO,” which may serve for a message to the deceased. “Imali Eningi” is a track that put Big Zulu on the limelight and the song is deemed to be the most important song on the album. The song was released in 2020, became viral very immediately before the end of the year, winning multiple awards for song of the year.

25K – Pheli Makaveli

Coming from the streets of west of Pretoria, 25K has produced a massive hip hop project making him a notable rapper in the game. The album has a total of 12 tracks, with guest appearances from the likes of A-Reece, FLVME, Emtee, Maglera Doe Boy, Killa-X and Zoocci Coke Dope who happened to be the producer of the project. The rapper mentioned that the project speaks about his life journey before making a decision to venture into music. “The project is about my upbringing, my story and my journey before the music and when I fell in love with the music,” 25K told Apple Music.
