Makwa has been vocal about finding ways to make hip hop genre be on top again. The rapper and producer took to social media to find ways that can make hip hop great. The Mtan ‘Omuntu hitmaker asked if there are hip hop cyphers taking place in the townships. “Do we still have hip hop sessions and cyphers in the hoods?” Asked Makwa.

DJ Zan-D who has been the host of hip hop cyphers responded to Makwa revealing why those kinds of hip hop sessions are no longer happening and why he stopped hosting them. “I’ve done them before but venue owners complain that hip hop heads don’t spend at their venues. People chill outside drinking colts and smoking weed until it’s time for performances,” said DJ Zan-D.

Producer Makwa also called for the revival of the hip hop festival Back To The City this year. Rashid Kay came through and confirmed the date for the session announcing the changes of the date for this year’s festival. “We’ll have BTTC this year. No more on Freedom Day but Heritage Day,” said Rashid Kay.
