Rashid Kay Opens Up On DJ Switch’s Contribution To SA Hip Hop

Rashid Kay disclosed how SA hip hop DJs should work towards promoting upcoming artists rather than paying attention to rappers who have made it already in the game. The rapper went on and heaped praises on DJ Switch referring him to be one of the DJs who have contributed so much in terms of promoting upcoming artists.

“How do you feel about DJs now the role of the DJ in terms of mix taping and making music, do DJ’s need to make music?” Asked OG Samke during the Masterclass Podcast episode with Rashid Kay.

Yes, they do, a DJ Switch has been doing that very well, sometimes when you’re a new artist you drop a dope song and nobody gives a f**vck because they don’t know you,” he said. “Half the time people follow the artist they don’t follow the music.

If Jay Little drops a song the same day as AKA and J Little has a dopper song than AKA (this is an example) all the DJs are gonna run for AKA because they are going for the brand,” he explained.

Rashid went on and revealed that people don’t follow the music but they follow the artist. The Amakoporosh hitmaker shared how DJ Switch has managed to close that in SA hip hop after the introduction of Nasty C on his song ‘Way It Go.’

“The first time when Nasty C blew up it was on DJ Switch’s song, (that’s how the way it goes) you know that’s the first time people were like who’s kid rhyming along Tumi he was not even Stogie T then,” he said. “That’s Switch people paid attention because it was DJ Switch’s song.”

Rashid urged hip hop DJs to follow DJ Switch’s footsteps by finding ways to promote upcoming artists in SA hip hop. “Hip hop DJs must play that role and find more creative ways like the balcony and other stuff that the Yanos cats are doing,” he explained.
