Blaklez Defends SA Rappers Who Sound American
Blaklez Defends SA Rappers Who Sound American. Blaklez decried the absence of social conscience in the SA hip-hop industry, claiming that those who strive to bring an “edge” to hip-hop are generally underappreciated.
Responding to a tweep who weighed in on SA rappers sounding American to stay relevant in the game and not taking pride in their own heritage. “The Game doesn’t need another Jay Roc wannabe. I Quote A.K.A once said they ask (me) Mega, how are do you manage to stay relevant in (an) era where the niggas sound American no pride in their own heritage nobody gone remember them I hope you read between the lines and understand this.“
Blaklez made it clear that rappers are allowed to express themselves the way they feel comfortable. “Ya’ll pontificate too much. This is art… the only rule is to express yourself the best way you feel comfortable.” Responded Blaklez.
In an interview he had with the SowetanLive publication, the rapper made it clear that social rappers have not been appreciated in the game. Blaklez shared concerns that there are artists in the game who are not expressing themselves in such a way they want with fear that they might lose their fans.
“It has got easier but there is still not a lot of space in the industry for social rappers‚ they aren’t appreciated as much. I don’t know what it is exactly because there are artists that speak loudly away from the music. Maybe they fear they will lose fans if they try to push a message.” Said Blaklez.
Blaklez is currently working on a new album Lost Diamond 2 featuring PdotO. The album is believed to be reaching its completion, it’s only a matter of a few periods of sleep before the rapper release what he believes is going to be the best hip hop album in South Ah.
